2010 Member of the Year

Pat Homan

IACES 2010 Member of the Year Pat HomanOn December 17, 1948, Patricia Corcoran was born at Huron Rd. Hospital weighing 7 lbs. 5 oz. Delivered by Dr. Hart to proud parents Nora and John Corcoran both from County Mayo. She joined her siblings, brothers Bob and Jim and sister Kathy. I am told that as the year went on Pat's father nicknamed her "Shorty", her sister also said that she was "spoiled rotten" and "got everything." So, it is our pleasure to spoil her rotten again, when on February 8, 2010 at the General Membership Meeting, the Executive Board announced their choice for the 2010 Member of the Year.

If you know Pat, you know what a dedicated and loyal member she has been to our club since its early beginnings. On October 12, 1981, the membership approved the purchase of the Furniture Land Building which is now our present home. Pat's husband, Bill, was our President at the time and on January 23, 1982 over 800 members were here to celebrate our Grand Opening. Something I found out in talking with her husband Bill is that Pat was the Club's first Sergeant at Arms. I guess my question would be did she ever have to strong arm anyone at a meeting? Pat also served as Member at Large on the Executive Board from 1982-1985.

There are a few committees that Pat herself has not served on. She served on the committee for the Club's Anniversary Dance for the first 10 years and funny enough has also co-chaired the dance for the past 3 years. Pat has been a bartender, marched with the ladies drill team, served on the Schanachie Staff and every year for as long as I can remember has been on the serving line for the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner her at the Club. She currently is the Chairperson for the Schanachie Mail Out and makes sure that she and her committee get your monthly newsletter out to all the members.

Now a little more about Pat. She grew up on East 260th St. in Euclid. Pat attended St. William's grade school and Villa Angela Academy where she graduated in 1967. Pat still to this day keeps a close touch with her friends from both schools. Graduation was on a Sunday and Monday she began working at Midwest Forge and has been there ever since. Pat married Bill Homan on May 14, 1977 at St. William's Church. They have three beautiful children. Heather who is a Staff Assistant for Senator George Voinovich in Washington, D.C., John who attends Ohio University and Erin who attends Notre Dame College in South Euclid. Pat and Bill have been parishioners at St. Justin Martyr Church in Eastlake for almost 30 years where they have both been active.

We are happy to announce Pat as our choice for the 2010 Member of the Year for the Irish American Club East Side, Inc. Pat, thank you for all the great work that you do here at the Club. We love you. Rest up for the weeks ahead, for it will be a time you will never forget!!
